TAAF is tough
(01/06)
Last December, SDV International Logistics Reunion
organized the transport of an optical wire-cable coil on
board the “Marion Dufresne”, chartered by the
French Austral and Antarctic Territories (TAAF).
Thanks to Reunitrans, the SDV International Logistics subsidiary
specialized in road transportation, the authorizations and
transportation means necessary for this huge load were obtained
in only two days. As a Category III heavy haulage, with
non standard dimensions (Length : 6 m, width : 6 m, height
: 1,7m, weight : 26 t, length of cable : 8000 m) the coil’s
transportation required also a police escort as well as
a 60-ton mobile crane and a semi-trailer tractor.
During the next turn-round in January, Reunitrans will
take up the challenge again by transporting a launch to
the Kerguelen Islands.
2 “TAAF” operations !
For your information, the French Austral and Antarctic
Territories (TAAF) welcome about 200 persons yearly for
6 months to 1 year stays , mostly working on scientific
missions. Their only connection with the real world is made
through the “Marion Dufresne” between Reunion
and the Austral territories (Kerguelen, Crozet, Amsterdam,
St Paul) and the “Astrolabe” between Australia
and Terre Adélie.
